Overnight Work/Closures on the Southern Link Road

Night Work on the Southern Link Road

As you are aware, we carry out the majority of work on the Southern Link Road during the daytime, however, when certain work is being carried out eg extensive surfacing work, a full road closure is required. Recognising this important route cannot be closed during the daytime, this type of work has to take place overnight. We want to notify you of forthcoming overnight work taking place in the following periods:

20th February to 10th March Monday to Friday evenings inclusive 9pm to 6am (15 nights)

21st March to 24th March inclusive 9pm to 6am (4 nights)

You may have been aware we had planned some overnight work earlier this year but we decided to postpone it to see if we could reduce the number of nights required as the original plan required significantly more than the 19 we have managed to get it down to.

The contractor is required to work within the guidelines set out in British Standard BS5228 and the working methods they have agreed with Worcestershire Regulatory Services to control noise. In summary, this requires the contractor to comply with Worcestershire Regulatory Services' “Code of Best Practice for Demolition and Construction Sites”.

Some noise eg vehicle reversing bleepers which are mandatory, is unavoidable but contractors have been instructed to keep noise to a minimum. Wherever possible, noisier work will be completed by midnight. We have also instructed the contractors to carefully consider the location and direction of floodlighting to minimise any impact on residential properties.

We do not anticipate any changes to the dates set out above but any variations will be published on the County Council website www.worcestershire.gov.uk/slrphase3

As usual, diversion routes will be signposted during the closures and advanced warning signs will be activated from this coming Monday evening. Messages will also be tweeted on the Travel Twitter account @WorcsTravel

We will be emailing residents who are on our database over this weekend and carrying out a letter-drop next week to the properties most affected.

We apologise for any disturbance or inconvenience you and your parishioners may experience.

Kind regards

Andy Maginnis
