DescriptionGiving to Edward Fynes knight, lord Clynton and Say, and lady Ursula his wife licence to alienate to William Pynnocke gentleman and Elizabeth his wife two watermills under one roof called Burley Mylles, 40 acres of land covered with water, and 240 acres of pasture, with appurtenances, in Hanley and Upton on Severn, which they held from the king in chief; to be held to William and Elizabeth, their heirs and assigns, for the term of their lives and the life of the survivor, of the king and his heirs by the services due from the property and lawfully accustomed; for the sum of 40s paid in advance. Sealing clause.: brown wax, the great seal, mutilated.

1. This document is referred to in Amphlett, Habington, vol 1, 112, 269; Habington mistakenly has 50 acres of land covered with water, but the figure in any case is probably conventional. The water apparently includes the mill pond and the fishponds, while the pasture is probably the park. Edward Fynes had bought the manor from the Crown in 1545. For the mills at Hanley, see Toomey, Medieval Woodland Manor, 158-62.
