DescriptionGiving to John Chambur, William Symondus, Richard Frewyn and William Frewyn his whole messuage with six acres of arable land lying in the lordship of Hanley; the messuage is situated in Church End (Le Churchende de Hanley), in breadth between the tenement recently belonging to Henry Hanley on the west and that once belonging to John Huggus on the east and it extends in length from the public road (a commune via) on the south to the land once belonging to William Bagger on the north; and the said six acres of arable land lie together in the field called Lechemerefelde, in breadth between the land of Nicholas Carpynter on the west [north?] and the public road leading to Severn Meadow (Severnemedow) on the south and they extend in length from the land of the said Nicholas on the west to that of John Wyse and the public road on the east; to be held with fences, ditches, hedges and all other appurtenances to John, William, Richard and William, their heirs and assigns, freely [etc] in perpetuity, of the chief lord of the fee, by the services due from the property and lawfully accustomed. Seal: red wax, device of cross surmounted by an arch.

1. Although this charter was dated at Stow (sc. Stow on the Wold, Gloucs) the witnesses are Hanley names; it is possible that all these people had gone to Stow's annual fair, held at the beginning of August (information from Professor C Dyer).
