DescriptionGiving to Thomas Penne of the same vill four selions of his arable land lying in Le Longcroftof Hanley, in length between Severn Meadow (Severnemede) on the east and the headland (forerd') once belonging to Robert Calvord on the west and in breadth between the land of John Penne, father of the said Thomas, on the north and that of Robert Hancok on the south; to be held with its fences (sepibus), ditches and all other appurtenances to the said Thomas, his heirs and assigns, of the chief lord of the fee by the services due from the land and lawfully accustomed, freely [etc] and in perpetuity. Warranty clause. Sealing clause.

1. John Bradwell appears first in Hanley in 1398 and was constable of the castle in 1401; he had land in Longdon, Eastington and Castlemorton, which he sold at that time to Richard Edryche, vicar of Hanley (WCRO BA 1531 Ref 705.134/73/9). He was recorded as a free tenant in 1416, but the name is not then seen again except as a former owner of land; however William Bradwell of Upton is recorded in 1519. Several other transient people can be seen in Hanley, contrasting with many long-settled families.
