DescriptionConfirming that William Baugh of Hanley has sold to Richard Wodeward senior of the same vill two tenements lying in Hanley in Roberts End (Robertishend) with all their appurtenances, of which one had been bought by William from the said Richard with one acre of land lying in Cavullesfeldand the other had been bought from Gilbert Stokes with a croft adjacent; the conditions are that Richard has agreed, and for his heirs or assigns, to pay ð 20 to William or his heirs or assigns, at a rate of 13s 4d annually at Michaelmas for ten years, with distraint of goods permitted after 14 days default, and then at Michaelmas 1495 a sum of 20 marks, with distraint of his land called Wodewardsmeese if he defaults; and if during the said ten years Richard has been dispossessed of Wodewardsmeese, then William may re-enter the two tenements and take possession; additionally six is to be spent by Richard on repairs. If either party fails to fulfil the terms of the indenture, a penalty of ð 30 is agreed.
Witnesses: James of Knottesford, bailiff of Hanley, William Seard, William Hanley, Roger Frewyn of the Forthey, Roger Bagger and many others.
