DescriptionGiving to Richard Lechmer one parcel of empty land, 24 feet in length, extending from a curtilage belonging to Richard Frewen on the south as far as the house of the said Richard Lechmer and the land of [the three grantors] on the north, and 20 feet in breadth, between the orchard of [the three grantors] on the west and the land of Richard Lechmer on the east; and also one butt of land, extending on one side [sc. in length] from the said orchard recently belonging to Richard Frewen and the said parcel of empty land on the south as far as a headland which is shared year by year (participatur annuatim) between Richard Lechmer and Richard Frewen on the north, and in breadth between the land of Richard Lechmer on both sides; and also part of a parcel of meadow called Le Plecke lying in Severn Meadow (Severnemedowe), which is alternated (alternatur) year by year with the said Richard Lechmer at mowing time, extending in length from the meadow of Richard Lechmer on the west to that of William Bawghe on the east and in breadth between the meadow of John Saunders and Joan Carpenter widow on the south and that of the said Richard Lechmer on the north; to be held with all appurtenances to Richard, his heirs and assigns, in perpetuity, in exchange for half the site of a certain dovecote situated in the orchard recently belonging to the said Richard Frewen, and half a toft situated next to Combecrosse, extending [in length] from the king's highway (via regali) there on the west to the land of John Taylour on the east and in breadth between the land of the said John Taylour on the north and the aforesaid king's highway and the park of Hanley on the south,all of which they [the three grantors] had with appurtenances of the gift and feoffment of the said Richard Lechmer by the aforesaid exchange; [to be held] of the chief lords of those fees by the services due from the property and lawfully accustomed. Seal: three, all lost.

1. The arrangement for meadow is historically as in and others above, but Richard Lechmer is now buying (or receiving from trustees) the meadow which previously he had shared with the grantors; as a result he will now be able to take the hay from it each year. The headland is shared between two tenants year by year, and was probably used as pasture.
2. The bounds of Hanley Park at this point ran to the west and south west of the church and behind the present Three Kings (Introduction, p xv).
