DescriptionGiving to William Wodeman of the same vill one messuage, one croft called Pryckecroftand five dayworks of arable land with a parcel of meadow lying in Haywardesfeld, in length between the road called Blackmore Street (Blakemores stret) on the north and a certain road called Aylers End Street (Aylwardesendestret) on the south, and in breadth between the land of Henry Lane on the east and that of Richard Grove and Richard Serd on the west; to be held with its hedges, ditches and all appurtenances to the said William, his heirs and assigns, freely [etc] in perpetuity of the chief lord of the fee by the rents and services due from the property and lawfully accustomed. Witnesses: Thomas de Hanley esquire (armigero), Richard Serd, Robert Grove, Henry Hanley, John Frewyn, William the clerk, John Sampson and many others.

1. Richard Edryche was vicar from 1399 to 1420 and again briefly in 1434; he had retired on a pension from the vicarage in 1420, apparently following a stroke (Reg Tideman, fos 31v, 33 : WCRO BA 2648 Ref b 716.093/4b(v); Reg Morgan I, fo 21 : ibidem /5b(iii); Reg Sede Vac, 413, 425). He held land privately in addition to the vicarage glebe
2. The family name Prycke is first seen in 1334); this is one of several crofts named after families, while others are named topographically. The property described here, with a messuage, a croft, some arable land and a meadow, is an example of a small estate as a balanced economic unit.
