Dated at Hanley.

1. A daywork here seems to have been about six selions; by definition it was the area of land which might be cultivated in one day, but it can never be an exact measurement, since the length of selions and the difficulty of land was bound to vary.
2. The selions in this charter apparently run north-south, and their headlands must have abutted the southern boundary of Northfield, called Northfeleheche. It is usually possible from the detail in a charter to decide the direction of the selions.

Seal: red wax, device of letter W.
