DescriptionGiving to John Muleward alias Poywyke of the same vill two selions of his land in the lordship of Hanley (Hanleye) in a certain field called Burleyfield (Burleyfeld), extending in length from the land called Seynte Anne Londeon the east to the land of Nicholas Grove on the west, and in breadth lying between the land of the said Nicholas on both sides and one parcel of the land of Saint Anne; to be held with appurtenances to John, his heirs and assigns, freely [etc] in perpetuity, of the chief lord of the fee by the rents and services due from the land and lawfully accustomed. Warranty clause. Sealing clause.
Witnesses: Simon Hanley, Richard Trygge, Hanley [underlined, as for erasure], John Sampson, William the clerk, William Bagger, Thomas Pen, Henry Syred and many others.

1. The date is given as Wednesday after the feast of the dedication of the church of Saint Botulph in Hanley 12 Henry VI (die mercurii proximo) [sic] post festum dedicacionis ecclesie sancti Botulphi de Hanley........). The date of the dedication is not known, but if the feast day of St Botulph himself is intended, the date of the charter will be 17 June 1434. 2. St Anne's land was presumably the endowment of St Anne's chantry; a mass has been added in the Hanley parish missal for this saint, probably in the early fifteenth century (CUL Kk 2.6). See also Introduction, p xiii and note 18.
