TitleCharter of John Carpynter of Hanley
DescriptionGiving to John his son his messuage with a parcel of arable land attached to it called Bonerysclose lying in the lordship of Hanley, extending from the path (venella) called Hale Laneon the north to the field called Le Colefeldeon the south and from Haleheyssehayon the east to the king's highway (viam regiam) leading towards Worcester (Wigorn') on the west; and also all his other lands and holdings with all appurtenances held or possessed by purchase (que quovis modo habeo et possideo racione perquisicionis mee) in the lordship of Hanley;to be held to John, his heirs and assigns, in perpetuity of the chief lord of the fee, by the services due from the property and lawfully accustomed. Warranty clause. Sealing clause.
Witnesses: Richard Lechemere, John Lawton, Richard Frewyn, Robert Grove, John Frewyn and others.
Dated at Hanley (Hanlay) Bonerys close recalls the Bonner family, who seem eventually to have had their home ground near the quay, on the south side of Quay Lane, where a cottage still bears the name, although the messuage in this charter appears to be further to the north.
