Seal: red wax, device of shield quarterly, with birds in the quarters; legend illegible.1. This is probably Richard Baron's seal, the same as in . The use of armorial seals had spread down through the gentry and perhaps to other prominent tenants : Harvey and McGuinness, 54-8. The Baron (Barne) name is first seen in Hanley in 1429; Richard Barne was an executor of Simon Hanley's will and John Baron a school trustee in 1544
