1. John Hawkyns may have been the vicar's assistant who was responsible for the "chapel of the vill", which was possibly at Roberts End; in the accounts for 1490-1 (PRO SC6 Hen VII/990) it is shown as repaired at a cost of ð 9 14s 5d (see Introduction, note 19). In 1479-80 the chaplain of the vill paid 3s 6d annually into the manor for the dead wood which he was allowed to collect for his hearth.
