DescriptionGiving to Richard Paty, son and heir of Philip Paty deceased, all the messuages, lands, tenements, rents and services, with their meadows, pastures and pasture rights and all other appurtenances, which they held in the vill and fields of Hanley [and] recently received of the gift and feoffment of the said Philip; to be held to Richard, his heirs and assigns, in perpetuity, of the chief lord of the fee by the services due from the property and lawfully accustomed. Sealing clause.
Witnesses: John Savage knight, constable of the castle of Hanley and steward of the same vill, James Knottesford then bailiff there, Alan Cotton, Roger Frewyn of Forthey, William Fyklet and others.

1. Sir John Savage appeared for the first time in Hanley in 1478, when he was appointed by the Crown as constable of the castle and keeper of Hanley Park (Cal Pat Rolls 1476-85, 94). In 1485 he became steward of the manor (and of Upton and Redmarley) and master of the game of Malvern Chase (Cal Pat Rolls 1485-94, 9). He and his relatives are seen in several deeds below
