DescriptionTo William Legh Harper : whereas a certain James Knottesford by his charter dated 4 July 1501gave to William Legh Harper a certain messuage with croft adjoining, with appurtenances, in Southend in the vill of Hanley, between the tenement of William Hanley on the north and that of Walter Baron on the south and between the king's highway on the east and the field called Westfield (Westfild) on the west, a messuage and croft which William Legh is currently seised of, to Joan's certain knowledge : now Joan has remised and quitclaimed, for herself and her heirs in perpetuity, all possible right and claim in the said messuage and croft to William, his heirs and assigns. Clause excluding future claims. Warranty clause. Sealing clause.

1. The origin of the name Kykersend probably lies in OE cirice, church, in which case it is Church End. The messuage seems to be the one described in Kykersend is still seen in 1628 (WCRO BA 1531 Ref 705.134/37).
