Title | Remise and quitclaim by Joan Lechemer of Hanley (Hanley subtus Malverniam), county Worcester (Wigorn'), recently widow of Richard Lechemer, for herself, her heirs and assigns, or others acting in her name, in perpetuity |
Description | To John Thurkehill bailiff of Severn Stoke (Stoke super Sabrinam), Roger Frewyn of Forthey and John Frewyn of Longdon, their heirs and assigns, of all possible right and claim in all her lands and tenements, rents, reversions and services, with meadows, pastures, pasture rights, hedges, ditches and all other appurtenances lying in the lordship of Hanley which they recently held jointly with Richard Tele deceased, of the feoffment of John Turnour senior and William Hanley, the two feoffees of her late husband Richard Lechemer, in accordance with a charter executed for them and dated at Hanley on 14 April 1495, [and] which [property] those two feoffees formerly held jointly with Thomas Modye, rector of the parish church of Peopleton (Pepulton), John Chambre of Upton (Upton super Sabrinam) and John Bracye of Grenefeyld, deceased, of the gift and feoffment of the said Richard Lechemer, her former husband, in accordance with a charter executed for them and dated at Hanley on 4 May 1460. Clause excluding future claims. Warranty clause. Sealing clause. Witnesses: John Walys esquire, Richard Frere gentleman, Walter Chappell, John Baugh, Richard Frewyn and many others. Dated at Hanley.
Seal: red wax, no impression. (chirograph) 1. It is unusual to find a quitclaim chirographed. The charter of 1495 has not been found. Richard Lechmere had apparently created a trust in 1460 of some of the lands which came to him on his marriage to Joan Whytemere in 1459. Richard's son, Thomas Lechmere, a beneficiary of the trust, married Eleanor Frere of Claines in 1506, and this quitclaim, witnessed by a member of her family, was important to the marriage settlement
