Description | Giving to Edward Wallewen gentleman, John Bolfynche gentleman, John Burfeld gentleman, William Frewen, Thomas Trygge, Roger son of William Frewen, Thomas Harrard and John Thorn, his trustees (feoffati), one messuage in Hanley called Hale hey Hale Aschecrofte, with appurtenances, along with certain parcels of land in the same place called Wodwell Norley landes; to be held to the said [grantees], their heirs and assigns, in perpetuity, of the chief lords of the fee by the services due from the property and lawfully accustomed, for the benefit and use of Thomas Frewen, son and heir of the aforesaid Richard Frewen, and of Agnes, recently wife of William Rugge, and the legitimate male heirs of Thomas and Agnes; and if they die without such heirs, remainder to the male heirs of Richard Frewen himself; and also [giving] the reversion of the tenement in Hanley called Le Forthey, to be held for the use of the said Thomas Frewen and his male heirs for one and a half years after Richard Frewen's death, excepting a wayside lodging and tavern (diversorio et taverna) in the said tenement along with other exceptions, during the widowhood of Elizabeth wife of Richard, as detailed in an indenture dated 22 May 1533;and also [giving] the reversion of one garden with an orchard called Johnslande, with other lands called Jackemans hey, Saltewell, Jenkyns lande, with one acre of land called Richardslande, Broke crofte, Balsehallin Hanley, to be held for the use of the said Thomas Frewen and his male heirs after the death of Richard Frewen; and also [giving] one other parcel of land called Le Netherbalsehall, with other parcels called Broke crofte medowe, Le Buttes, Allens medowe, with appurtenances, to be held for the use of the said Thomas Frewen and his male heirs after the death of Elizabeth, Richard's wife; and if Thomas Frewen dies without male heirs, reversion of all the property to the male heirs of Richard. 1. diversorio may simply be a room in a house used as a lodging, although in a town it might mean a large, free-standing building used as an inn. 2. This indenture has not been found.
