Location of Defibrillators
Kington and Dormston village hall Cockshot Lane off the A422 situated on the outside of the building
St James Church Kington Lane off the A422
The Parish Council have purchased two Defibrillators one to be placed at the village hall and one at St James Church Kington
Why should I be interested in a defibrillator?
Every year in the UK there are up to 100,000 deaths of people suffering from Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA)– that’s more than breast cancer, lung cancer, HIV and AIDs combined! SCA is no respecter of age or fitness level since 12 people under the age of 35 die each week from SCA.
It can occur to anyone, at any age and in any place
In this country survival rates are lamentably low, typically 4% or 5%. In some countries, for example Norway, the survival rate is 25%
The British Heart Foundation’s ‘Chain of Survival’ is really simple:
1. Early recognition (by another person) & calling 999 for help
2. Early Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to buy time
3. Early Defibrillation to restart the heart
4. Post resuscitation care (normally in hospital) to restore quality of life
If a defibrillator is used and effective CPR is performed within 3-5 minutes of cardiac arrest, survival chances increase from 6% to 74%
