1. Sir John Russell of Strensham now appears in Hanley; in 1543 he would become chief forester and lord of Hanley Hall (see note 1). After a lease of the site of the dissolved priory granted in 1538, another branch of the family eventually held both that and the manor of Little Malvern : VCH Worcs, vol 2, 147; vol 3, 451.
