TitleLetter from Saml. [Samuel] Romilly
DescriptionLetter sent from Lincoln's Inn [London], being the case of Georgiana Catherine Coventry, wife of [M. W.] Barnes. The 7th Earl of Coventry has sought advice from the Court on whether Mr Barnes could be compelled to make a settlement of Georgiana's £10,000 fortune, and whether he will be entitled to the money [even though he married against the will of Georgiana's father]. Forwards the opinion that it is not possible for the Court to interfere unless an application is made against Barnes 'for a contempt in marrying a Ward of the Court without its permission and if such application is made it will be impossible to prevent his being committed to the Fleet'.
