The volume also mentions Harrison's marine watch as it was taken across to Jamaica on the voyage of the Deptford in 1861 as part of the series of tests on its suitability to determine longitude. William Henry Lyttelton sailed out to Jamaica on the Deptford and was involved with the supervision of the tests, being present at the winding of the watch.

George Haldane was Governor of Jamaica 1756-59. On his death in 1759 Sir Henry Moore was appointed acting Governor of Jamaica 1759-62. William Henry Lyttelton was then Governor of Jamaica 1760-66.
