Matters discussed include plants, shrubs and trees; maintenance of the cemetery and grounds; sales of the grass and hay crop; maintenance, alterations and improvements made to cemetery property, equipment and furnishings; list of bills to be paid; internment fees; resignation and appointment of staff; the Midwives Act 1902; approval of tombstones, monuments and memorial cards (referred to only by application number); establishment of two sub-committees, the Cemetery Sub Committee (to consider all matters in the remit of the Committee except the St Johns Cemetery) and the St Johns Sub Committee (matters relating to that cemetery) and their reports; queries or disputes concerning memorial inscriptions; supplies of coal and coke; telegraph pole and telephone installation; additional grave spaces and purchase of land for expansion; complaints received concerning the conduct of staff and the want of public facilities; investigation into ownership of a brook in Astwood Cemetery, and the costs of keeping it clear of debris; accidents and injuries to the cemetery workers; reports of damage to and repeated thefts from graves, resulting in the employ of a female detective and plainclothes police patrols, rewards offered and the names and addresses of any offenders caught; transfer of grave spaces; impact of the Great War on employment; and extension of city boundaries.

With a bundle of letters inside the front cover: letters dated 13 April 1864 and 24 August 1869 from Richard Woof, Town Clerk, regarding the closure of the old City Cemetery at Tallow Hill; list of persons nominated in the Vestry meetings for the positions of Directors on the Board of Guardians, with letters from the parishes putting forward names, 1869; printed notice of the rules and regulations of the cemetery, 1859; table of fees for internments, 1859; bundle of incomplete handwritten notifications for the next Board meeting from September 1876; requisition dated 27 April 1876 from Directors of the Old City Cemetery to call a meeting.
