DescriptionOriginally the Watch Committee, with responsibility for policing Worcester. The committee was also responsible for the provision, maintenance and lighting of gas street lamps. Later duties included extinguishing of fires and licensing and regulation of places used for public performances. Matters concerning electricity were the remit of the Watch & Lighting Committee until 1894, when the Electricity Committee was established.
