DescriptionReturns of all the bastardy cases heard in the Petty Sessions, in which the unmarried mother would apply for maintenance from the putative father. The returns give the name of mother, dates summons issued and date of petty sessions, result of application, and in successful cases, the name of the putative father. With three application for a summonses, one dated 1861 with Susan Lewis naming Thomas Reynolds as putative father and two from 1866 with Elizabeth Ferguson naming Harry Playdon as putative father of her twins.
