Item 705:73 BA14450/295/10 (2) talks of the Bishop of Worcester refusing to ordain him without [Reverend] St John's name. Item 705:73 BA14450/295/10 (3) talks of a renewal of the 8th Earl's old troubles [in reference to his wife, Lady Mary Beauclerk having an affair with his brother, John Coventry], states that he will do all in his power to disuade him from any communication. Item 705:73 BA14450/295/10 (4) a-b forwards a letter sent from their brother John, talking of his reduced strength and distress at all the accusations being made [regarding his affair with Lady Mary, his brother's wife]. Item 705:73 BA14450/295/10 (5) stating that it is not necessary to trace where the child is now [in reference to an illegitimate child born to Lady Mary Beauclerk which was smuggled out of the house in secrecy]. Dr Clarke will be suppened [subpoenaed] and obliged to speak out. Believes that a divorce would be difficult to come by. Item 705:73 BA14450/295/10 (6) talks of an agreement being made with Craufurd [Colonel A. C.] of giving Lady Barbara an £100 annuity. Item 705:73 BA14450/295/10 (7) talks about an 'absurd' report circulating of the 8th Earl's behaviour [regarding his alleged involvement with an underage girl], hopes he will discover the author and 'handle [him] very roughly'. Item 705:73 BA14450/295/10 (9) talks of the reports circulating and how some people are being led to believe it. Item 705:73 BA14450/295/10 (10) talks of opening a letter from Sir Charles Cockerell's son, reporting the accident that had befallen George [Lord Deerhurst, eldest son of 8th Earl of Coventry who was blinded in a hunting accident]. Item 705:73 BA14450/295/10 (11) gives an account of George's accident. Item 705:73 BA14450/295/10 (12) talks of the ill health of Craufurd [Colonel A. C.]. Note added on the reverse in the hand of the 8th Earl states 'curious [and] cool as to poor Col. Craufurd...'. Item 705:73 BA14450/295/10 (13) seeks advice on Sir Roger's [Gresley, 8th Baronet] letter received. Item 705:73 BA14450/295/10 (14) talks of Gresley's desire that family differences should cease. Sends account of their feelings on the matter. Item 705:73 BA14450/295/10 (15) is a draft copy of a letter sent to Thomas from George, talking of the business with Gresley. Item 705:73 BA14450/295/10 (16) talks of the illness of Craufurd. Note on the reverse states 'decides on coming though was not invited by me [and] in face of Col. Craufurd's illness'. Item 705:73 BA14450/295/10 (17) talks of the death of Craufurd. Item 705:73 BA14450/295/10 (18) talks of his presence not being desired at the funeral. A copy of a reply is written on the reverse. Item 705:73 BA14450/295/10 (19) talks of not being given permission to have a mutton chop in Piccadilly. Although fears he wishes him 'to be mortified and withdraw', will wait to hear from Lord Coventry himself on the matter. Includes a reply stating that there has been a mistake and has written to that effect to correct it. Disappointed that this is his only notice of him by letter since he left London. Item 705:73 BA14450/299/5 (2) talks of the illness of their brother John. Talks of getting an invalid carriage to take him to London as soon as he stops vomiting.
