As well as general family matters the letters touch on the death of Nora Glynne in 1859 and Edward Talbot's marriage proposal to Lavinia 1869.

The letters include some addressed to 'mama'. There is also a stray letter to her sister Lucy from Lavinia 1862, some letters to Lavinia from Lucy and from her brother Charles and a letter to Aunt Emy. These have been left in place as that seems to have been the original arrangement of the letters.
