TitleCemetery Committee
DescriptionThe Cemetery committee was a seven-man committee appointed to take over the duties and responsibilities of the Burial Board and General Health Committee, and to manage the day-to-day running of the city cemetery. Worcester's first out-of-town cemetery was opened in 1855 and all inner-city cemeteries were closed to new burials in 1858. They were responsible for the Old City Cemetery at Tallow Hill (until 1916, when the Property Committee took it over) and the Astwood cemetery. Volumes of Grants of Burial provide details of grave purchases in the Astwood and St John's Cemetery. The workhouse burial ground remained the responsibility of the workhouse. Please see the Property Committee for minutes 1915-1921 and the Property and Cemeteries Committee for minutes from 1921.

The committee reported to the Board of Directors, who were responsible for auditing the accounts, appointing committee members, and made made decisions based on the committee's recommendations.
