TitleAlderman Brotherton's Notes about Worcestershire Families
DescriptionVarious notes and other items collected during the course of Alderman Brotherton's research, most of which were compiled in the 1950s and 1960s, but occasionally including earlier documents. Comprises:

1 - Williams: Handwritten notes concerning the Tybridge Street Distillery and Rectifying House, North Parade, with copious notes concerning the history of various members of the Williams family. With several letters dated 1959 - 1961 from George Francis Jones-Williams concerning the family history and his life. With a Deed of Trust for the College for the Blind Sons of Gentlemen.

2- Coventry: two newspaper clippings from 1925 regarding the 9th Earl of Coventry's diamond wedding anniversary; typed copy of a 1788 royal visit to Croome Court; and mostly handwritten notes about the history of various Earls.

3 - Quarrell: notes and letters (dated circa 1960) relating to the history of various members of the Quarrell family of solicitors, largely focussing on genealogical notes and what appear to be handwritten copies of published obituaries.

4 - Cooksey and Wakeham: Handwritten notes and a couple of letters about the family history of the Wakehams and Cookseys (Earls of Hardwicke), and the history of Perdiswell Hall and some brief information about John Somers.

5 - Berkeley: Handwritten history entitled 'The Berkeleys of Cotheridge and Spetchley', with brief extracts copied from Chamber Order Books, and a postcard of Worcester, probably looking West, with labourers in the foreground accompanied by a letter from G Potter concerning the Romans dated 1962.

6 - Stallard: Letters, handwritten notes and copied extracts of documents about the Stallard family, and in particular their involvement in the wine merchant business, a 1954/5 brochure from Stallards; newspaper obituary dated 1961 about John Stallard's death aged 103; two exercise books, one of which is brief biographies of the Lords Lieutenants of Worcester.

7 - Warmistry: Letters, handwritten notes and copied extracts of documents about the Warmstrey family and their mansion Warmstry House (all spellings are used, also sometimes recorded as Walmsley), and a 1958 newspaper clipping about the Mace.

8 - Dent: Letters, handwritten notes and copied extracts of documents dated 1950s and 1960s, about the Dent family, with especial focus on John Dent, including a draft of 'The Story of John Dent' written in 1954 by Brotherton.

9 - Newdix or Newdicke: One draft letter and one sheet of notes about the Newdick family and Newdix Court, formerly in the High Street.

10 - Blanketts: Handwritten notes and copied extracts of documents about the Blankett family, and more specifically their manor at Barbourne.

11 - Lavender: originally in an envelope annotated 'Canynge Road (Canynge Family of Bristol) (St Stephens Church - Barbourne Bowling Club Families - Lavender, Gutch)'. Letters and handwritten notes with hand drawn maps about the family members, property in Barbourne, church windows and burial places of Jane Lavender and Mary Gutch.

12 - De Georges: Letters and handwritten notes about the de George family from Bristol, distillers in Worcester, and a pamphlet about Wills Hall.
