Description | Various notes and other items collected during the course of Alderman Brotherton's research, comprising:
1 - Flight and Barr. Letters, handwritten notes and newspaper clippings relating to the two founders of the Worcester Porcelain Factory, dating from the 1950s and 1960s.
2 - Dr Charles Hastings. Newspaper clippings, programme for the Hastings Centenary Clinical Meeting dated 1966, British Medical Association's Resolution awarding the Gold Medal and Testimonial to Hugh Anthony Clegg, 1965, printed notes from a short talk about Charles Hastings, and a copy of a case regarding the election of Charles Hastings to Worcester City Council.
3 - Lieutenant General Thomas Lightfoot. Newspaper clipping, postcard and notes about the Birmingham-born soldier.
4 - Black and white photograph of a painting of Lord Lyttleton, probably George William, the 4th Baron Lyttleton and Lord Lieutenant of Worcester, formerly in a protective sleeve 'Commercial & Industrial Photography. 5 - John Nash. Bundle of letters, newspaper clippings and typed extracts of the will, concerning the tradition of the Town Clerk reading John Nash's will on the first Friday of Lent, all dated the 1930s. With a "Newspaper report from the Evening News & Times of the 28th December 1960 as to Nash House, New Street, Worcester and Nash's Almshouses, Worcester" formerly kept in a separate envelope.
6 - Sarah Siddons. Exercise booklet containing Brotehrton's notes and various newspaper clippings from the 1950s, and an article commemorating the 200th anniversary of Siddons's birth from 'The Lady' magazine.
7 - John Lord Somers, Lord High Chancellor. Four pages of handwritten notes.
8 - Lord Somers, Lord Sandys, Sir H Foley Vernon. Letters, newspaper clippings from the 1960s, and handwritten notes, which includes some geneaolocial information and details about John Nash.
9 - Handwritten notes about Mrs Henry Wood (nee Ellen Price).
10 - John Wheeley Lea. Letters, newspaper clipping from 1961 and a heavily annotated draft of his biographical details.
11 - Photocopy of a telegram from P G Wodehouse dated 1953 to Mr Cutler, discussing his latest work 'Performing Flea', Mr Cutler's cat 'Bertie Wooster', and Wodehouse's connections to Worcester. With covering note to the Superintendant Registrar at Worcester dated 1978, informing him that the original was to be sold at auction. |
