TitleAlderman Brotherton's Notes about Place Names and Streets
DescriptionVarious notes and other items collected during the course of Alderman Brotherton's research, comprising:

1 - Street index 'Worcester urban Sanitary Authority. Names of Streets, Roads, &c., within the City boundary, arranged alphabetically in wards and also in general alphabetical order. October 1887.'

2 - Handwritten notes regarding a tour of Worcester streets, giving the history of buildings and streets and mentioning some events and people associated with them.

3 - Papers relating to Sansome Street and William Forsyth (sculptor, 1833–1915). Includes handwritten notes and copied extracts from documents, a newspaper clipping about the frieze of hop-pickers by Forsyth, a letter to Brotherton from Forsyth's former apprentice G. E. Sprague (dated 1961). A booklet 'List of Monuments of Historic, Traditional or Artistic Interest' prepared by Worcester City Council (dated 1912). Included in this bundle is a letter from the City of Birmingham Education Committee acknowledging Brotherton's resignation (dated 1961).

4 - Handwritten notes on the history of the Parish of St Johns in Bedwardine, with one newspaper clipping and some letters from local people or organisations providing information, dated 1962

5 - Severn End also known as Lechmere Place. Handwritten and typed notes about the estate at Severn End and the Lechmere family, undated but circa 1950s.

6 - Street names. Handwritten notes about the families, events and landmarks that lent their name to streets and buildings in Worcester.

7 - Handwritten notes on the history of the White Ladies site in Claines from the thirteenth century.
