Papers relating to a complaint against the Chief Constable Arthur Sommers in 1892, when he drunkenly assaulted his wife and a colleague who attempted to protect her, before fleeing and threatening suicide. Includes statements by the Sergeant who intervened; notes taken during cross examination of all involved for both sides; statements of previous occasions when the Chief was drunk on duty or embezzled money, written by the witnesses; letters from the Chief explaining his conduct and medical notes from various doctors attesting to his ill health; a petition signed by many of the Worcester City Police protesting working under the Chief Constable; and a report and inventory as to the fixtures and fittings of the Police Station.
