TitleGlee Club
DescriptionThe Glee Club was founded in 1809 or 1810 and was suspended (by vote of its members) at the end of 1936. Regular meetings were held at the Crown Hotel with some major performances taking place at Worcester Cathedral. Sir Edward Elgar became patron in the late nineteenth century. In the 1920s the President of the Glee Club was Alderman H A Leicester, who had a keen interest in local history. In 1922, the first 'Ladies Night' was held, which granted women the privilege of attending some performances. After a year of discussion, the members voted to disband the club in 1936. In December 1937 the records and effects of the Glee Club were transferred to the Town Clerk's safekeeping at the Guildhall.

The records are incomplete, and almost absent for the early decades of the club. Administrative, membership and financial records date from the second half of the Club's existence and are patchy in coverage. Ephemera such as programmes and publicity is more complete than records relating to the actual functioning and running of the club. There are also copies of songbooks and other works performed.
